How Do I? > Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle
Everybody has something they no longer need, which can be re-used to help the Bonaire Kitten Rescue. Some examples of things donated for reuse are listed below, as well as a list of things we still need:

Reused as: |
Sports Socks |
HEATING PADS: Clean, unholed white sports stocks are used to create heating pads for the kittens. We fill them with rice, tie off the end, and then put it in the microwave for 90 seconds. Once it is warmed up, we curl it around the kittens to keep them warm while they sleep. |
Old Cell Phones |
HEARTBEAT BOXES: Kittens are soothed by the heartbeat of their mother. We take old cell phones, put on a nice 12 hour "Mommy Cat Heartbeat" sound file, and then put it under the heating pad. Now the kittens have warmth and mommy's heartbeat and sleep like - well, Kittens. |
Plastic Bins/Totes |
BEDS: The kittens like to feel protected, and the large plastic (Rubbermaid, etc) bins are perfect. They do not need lids, but need to be at least 0.5 meter (18 inches) deep so the little acrobats cannot climb out. |
Pails/Buckets Old Towels |
CLEANING: Even though kittens are cute and cuddly, they do go to the bathroom, and someone has to clean it up. Anything of this nature is appreciated. |
Building Material |
HOUSING: Kittens eventually grow up into cats, and not all kittens are adopted immediately, so there is always a need for more housing. Any building material - leftover concrete, leftover wood, leftover chicken wire, etc is happily accepted. |
Fluffy Pillows or Fabric |
SNUGGLING: Kittens love to snuggle, and fluffy pillows or fabric makes them purrrr. Please make sure they are clean first (or if you want to get new ones, SuperStore has great cleaning cloths for cars at $2.00 each that are so soft and cuddly and the kittens love them.). |
